In 2026, the GTA 5 Enhanced edition has given San Andreas a fresh coat of paint, and Fort Zancudo remains the most exciting bad idea on the map. The place is a military base, not a theme park, but that has never stopped a certain kind of player from treating it like one. The goal is simple: borrow a fighter jet, roll out in a tank, or at least cause enough chaos that the insurance premiums become somebody else's problem. Look, nobody said this was a spa day.

Where exactly is this den of questionable decisions? Fort Zancudo sits on the outskirts of Blaine County, south of North Chumash beach, with Mount Josiah and the small town of Harmony to the east. On a satellite view it is listed as Lago Zancudo, and the tip of the base juts out of the shoreline like a concrete dare. On the in-game map it is considerably more coy, which is why the player should look for that shoreline spike first. It stands out on satellite imagery; in the regular map, it prefers to lurk.

Three ways in, three ways to regret it

The base is wrapped in fences, gates, and heavily armed people who did not sign up for visitors. There are several approaches, and each one has its own flavour of terrible.

đŸ›Šī¸ By aircraft

A plane or helicopter is the loudest option. The moment the player enters the base's airspace, they get a two-star wanted level and a radio warning. Linger, and that escalates to four stars and guided missiles. Landing is possible, but jumping and opening a parachute near the ground is smarter. After touching down, there is just enough time to steal a military vehicle before the army turns the hero into Swiss cheese.

🚗 By fast car

A fast car and a nearby hill or cliff can launch the player between the two outer fences. The sweet spot is the concrete road that circles the entire base. If the gate guards miss the stunt, the player can drive along that road without earning a wanted level. There are several exits, including one behind the vehicle hangar on the north side. Leaving the concrete path automatically triggers four stars, but it buys a few extra seconds to grab something with tracks or wings.

đŸī¸ By motorcycle

Sometimes a motorcycle can slip through the front checkpoint while the gate guard is looking in the other direction. If the player makes it past, an entrance to that same safe concrete road waits on the right. It is less a plan and more a coin flip with handlebars.

What to grab once inside

Target Why it is tempting Reality check
Fighter jet Fast, loud, and capable of making traffic reports Missiles are faster than the player's confidence
Tank Slow, smug, and excellent at ruining everyone's commute The army has more tanks, and fewer manners
Military truck Practical, rugged, and less glamorous Still a four-star wanted level with cup holders

GTA Online: bring a wallet or bring a parachute

Fort Zancudo is still dangerous territory in GTA Online. It remains an off-limits military zone, so getting too close earns a four-star wanted level and a soldiers' welcome committee. Unlike singleplayer, the ground checkpoints are never open, which means the player must hop the fence or arrive by air.

But GTA Online has a much classier option: buy a hangar. The Smuggler's Run update added three purchasable hangars on the base.

Hangar Price
Fort Zancudo Hangar 3497 $2,085,000
Fort Zancudo Hangar 3499 $2,650,000
Fort Zancudo Hangar A2 $3,250,000

Owning one of these hangars lets the player enter the military base without earning a wanted level. Start firing a weapon or steal a vehicle, though, and a two-star wanted level appears while the military attacks. Behave, and the player has the run of the base. In 2026, with the Enhanced edition looking prettier and GTA Online still bustling, a hangar remains the most elegant way to loiter around military hardware.

The wanted-level ballet

Fort Zancudo is not subtle. Aircraft get a two-star warning before the four-star fireworks. Cars and motorcycles can briefly exploit the concrete ring road. Hangar owners get a free pass until they misbehave. The stars are not a service rating; they are a countdown to several people with rifles deciding the player has overstayed.

So whether the player is a parachuting daredevil, a fence-hopping motorcyclist, or a hangar-owning aristocrat, Fort Zancudo delivers. Spoiler alert: the army is not a fan of tourists. Good luck explaining that to the insurance company.
